The World Internet of Things Convention 2025 and First Conference on Sustainable Development of Global Intelligently Interconnected Digital Economy kicked off in Beijing
The World Internet of Things Convention 2025 and First Conference on Sustainable Development of Global Intelligently Interconnected Digital Economy, an annual event for global Internet of Things (IoT) industry and digital economy, hosted by the international organization "World Internet of Things Convention", were grandly held from November 28 and 29, 2025 in Beijing, China.
Themed "Intelligently Interconnected New Economy, Smart Society in the New Era", this year's annual conference comprised Opening Ceremony, Ambassador Forum, World New Economic Forum, World IoT Top 500 Summit, International Cooperation Forum, Industrial IoT Forum, Workshop on AI+IoT Integrated Development, Smart Energy Forum, Transportation and Intelligent Vehicles Forum, and Standardization Forum, to name a few. Included in this event were the release ceremonies of the Declaration of Global Intelligently Interconnected Digital Economy and Social Development, the lists of Demonstration Cites and Enterprises for the Intelligently Interconnected Digital Economy, and the World IoT Top 500 Ranking List, as well as World IoT Awards. Representatives from 80 countries all over the world, including government officials, ambassadors and diplomats, officials from the United Nations and UN agencies such as UNCTAD, heads of international organizations like ITU, ISO, IEEE, IEC, WFEO, AICTO, WBBA, etc, representatives from World Top 500 enterprises, experts and scholars participated in this annual conference. Tens of millions of online viewers joined this event.

When addressing the event, Amandeep Singh Gill, Under-Secretary-General and Special Envoy for Digital and Emerging Technologies, United Nations, said: "Digital technologies are reshaping our economies as profoundly as our daily lives. But continued progress toward the digital future we seek—an inclusive, open, sustainable, fair, safe, and secure digital future for all—is by no means guaranteed. Today’s event reflects the vision of the Global Digital Compact. At the heart of the GDC lies the digital economy. The digital economy is increasingly intertwined with the global economy as a whole. For small and developing countries, the digital economy can be a vital engine for accelerating growth and improving social welfare." He also urged: "As we open this 10th World Internet of Things Convention and the inaugural Conference on Sustainable Development, let us renew our shared commitment to inclusive digital innovation and forward-looking cooperation across sectors and borders.".

In his keynote report, Xuming HE, Chairman of WIOTC Executive Committee, observed, "The transformation and upgrading of digital economy supported by the new generation of internet of things and AI technologies are reshaping a new-brand world. The global digital economy, driven by IoT intelligent technologies, is growing at a high annual rate of 8%. This year, the scale of digital economy is expected to reach $40 trillion USD. The number of IoT connections is projected to exceed 30 billion, a year-on-year increase of over 10%. China's IoT infrastructure development and digital economy innovation have made the country a global leader. The number of 5G base stations built to support the IoT is expected to equal 4.8 million, and satellite-based IoT networks are under way. At the same time, the number of object connections is projected to surpass 3.5 billion. This year, the annual output value of the traditional digital economy is expected to exceed 80 trillion RMB. Notably, enterprises meeting the criteria for the intelligently interconnected advanced digital economy will outnumber 1.2 million. China is becoming a world innovation powerhouse with new quality productive forces as its core element."

At the opening ceremony, Sung Hwan Cho, President of International Organization for Standardization (ISO), Houlin Zhao, Former Secretary-General of International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Jo Cops, President of International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), Kathleen A. Kramer, President and CEO of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Seng Chuan Tan, President of World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), LI Zhengmao, Chairman of the Board of Directors, World Broadband Association (WBBA), Mohamed Ben Amor, Secretary-General of Arab Information Communication Technology Organization (AICTO), Torbjörn Fredriksson, Head of E-Commerce and Digital Economy Branch, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Onoe Masamori,Director of Telecommunication Standard Bureau, International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Albert Tort Pugibet, Secretary of Telecommunications and Digital Transformation, The Government of Catalonia of Spain, and NI Jianzhong, Executive Chair of WIOTC Organizing Committee delivered speeches respectively.

At the Ambassador Forum, speakers were H.E. Mr. Hallam Henry, Ambassador of Barbados to China, H.E. Dr. SOEUNG Rathchavy, Ambassador of Cambodia to China, H.E. Mr. Khalil Hashmi, Ambassador of Pakistan to China, H.E. Mr. Ibrahima Sory SYLLA, Ambassador of Senegal to China, who introduced the developments of digital economy and presented investment and cooperation programs and opportunities respectively.
At other sessions, ZHANG Ping, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, LI Bohu, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and Chief Technology Chair of WIOTC, YU Lianghuan, General Manager of AIOT, Haier Smart Home of Haier Group, FANG Shurong, Deputy General Manager of E-surfing IoT Tech Co., Ltd, LUO Jian, Deputy General Manager, China Mobile IoT Company, CHEN Shanzhi, Vice General Manager and Chief Engineer of China Information Communications Technology Group Corporation Limited, YU Xizhao, Assistant to General Manager, CEC Industrial Internet Co., Ltd, etc mentioned that IoT and intelligent technologies are finding increasingly extensive applications in such sectors as industry, agriculture, healthcare, education, transportation, intelligent connected vehicles, smart home, and energy, which empower the intelligent upgrading of various industries and lead to the continued improvement of innovative capability. They also added that the market scale of global IoT and digital economy is ever widening, and areas of applications are expanding growingly. Meanwhile, they said that governments of various countries are unveiling related policies aimed at driving the transformation of IoT digital economy. And they also referred to IoT as a key force of powering the world economic and social development, especially in the fields of intelligent manufacturing, smart city and intelligent agriculture.

The first batch of global demonstration cities for the intelligently interconnected digital economy were officially announced, with Beijing (China), Chongqing (China), Paris (France), Frankfurt (Germany), Barcelona (Spain), Baoding (China), Yibin (China) standing out from over 70 cities from more than 30 countries and awarded the title of honor. WIOTC Executive Committee Chairman Xuming HE awarded the representatives of these demonstration cities related certificates.

This annual conference witnessed the introduction of new model of advanced digital economy, release of Declaration of the Global Intelligently Interconnected Advanced Digital Economy and Social Development, and unveiling of the lists of Demonstration Cites and Enterprises for the Intelligently Interconnected Digital Economy, and the World IoT Top 500 Ranking List, as well as World IoT Awards. All these initiatives not only help shape the global examples of digital economy but also provide reference for governments and enterprises around the world. This event can also gather wisdom to promote economic and social development and make our own contribution to the smart world.
